Managing Heart Blockage with Ayurvedic Medicine: Insights, Treatments, and Success Stories

Heart blockage, medically known as coronary artery disease (CAD), is a cardiovascular condition that affects millions worldwide. As a practitioner specializing in Ayurvedic medicine, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact of Ayurveda in managing and preventing heart blockages. In this article, I will explain my personal experience of handling patients with heart blockage with low EF and many more issues. We will explain causes, symptoms and the Ayurvedic approach to tackling & curing heart blockage non-surgically.

Understanding Heart Blockage

Heart blockage occurs when the coronary arteries, which supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle, become narrowed or blocked. This obstruction is primarily caused by a buildup of cholesterol, fatty deposits (plaque), and other substances within the arterial walls, leading to reduced blood flow to the heart. Over time, this can result in chest pain (angina), heart attacks, and other serious cardiovascular complications.

In Ayurveda, heart blockage, often referred to as "Hrudroga" or disorders of the heart, is understood through the lens of imbalances in the doshas (vata, pitta, and kapha) and the accumulation of toxins (ama) in the cardiovascular system. According to Ayurvedic texts and practices, heart blockage is primarily attributed to aggravations of "ama" (toxins) and "kapha dosha" (the bodily humor responsible for stability and structure). The treatment approach in Ayurveda aims to balance these doshas through ayurvedic medicines.

Ayurvedic Treatment Approaches -

Ayurvedic treatment for heart blockage aims to restore balance to the doshas, eliminate toxins, strengthen the heart muscle, and improve circulation.

Some Ayurvedic drugs such as Arjuna, Dhamasa, Pushkarmool, Hareetaki, Sunthi, Pippali, Jeerak, Chitrak, Giloy, and Katuki are utilized for treating heart diseases. Formulations containing these herbs are available at Ayurveda24.

I recently joined Ayurveda24 as a junior doctor, lacking prior experience with heart patients. However, since joining, I've witnessed successful treatment outcomes, achieving a curability rate of 80-90% for heart blockages. During my college studies, I learned about the properties of Pushkarmool, Arjuna, and Dhamasa and their impact on the cardiovascular system. However, I've come across clinical results on Ayurveda24 showing their effectiveness in actual patients.

Dr. Shridhar Aggarwal has developed his own formulations like Heart Care Kadha, Heart Care Churan, and Pushkarmool Gugglu specifically tailored for treating heart blockage.

1. Heart Care Kadha – Some Ayurvedic drugs such as Arjuna, Dhamasa, Pushkarmool, Hareetaki, Sunthi, Pippali, Jeerak, Chitrak, Giloy, and Katuki are utilized for treating heart diseases. Herbs combinations have scrapping property by virtue of which they clean up blockages.

·   Arjuna: Supports heart functions, strengthens cardiac muscles, and helps maintain healthy blood pressure levels.

·   Dhamasa: Known for its cardioprotective properties and ability to improve blood circulation.

·   Pushkarmool: Helps manage hypertension and improves coronary blood flow.

·   Hareetaki: Supports heart health by reducing cholesterol levels and promoting overall cardiovascular function.

·   Sunthi: Ginger, with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties beneficial for heart health.

·   Pippali: Supports respiratory and cardiovascular systems, enhancing circulation.

·   Jeerak: Cumin, aids digestion and metabolism, indirectly benefiting heart health.

·   Chitrak: Supports digestion and metabolism, contributing to cardiovascular health.

·   Giloy: Boosts immunity and provides antioxidant protection for the heart

2. Heart Care Churan – It contains Sunthi, Mareecha, Pippali, Ajamodha, Saindhav etc which support heart health, addressing factors like inflammation, digestion, circulation, and cholesterol levels. This blend exemplifies Ayurvedic principles of holistic health management, aiming to promote long-term cardiovascular wellness through natural ingredients. As Ayurveda suggest presence of ‘ama’ (undigested food) in all types of Heart Diseases this powder helps to eliminate ‘ama’ by increasing digestive fire and eliminating waste.

3. Pushkarmool Guggul- It is made with triphala, gugglu, pushkarmool. Pushkarmool supports cardiovascular health by improving blood flow, reducing inflammation, and dilating coronary arteries. It aids respiratory function by clearing lung congestion and offers diuretic benefits to reduce fluid retention. Additionally, it supports digestion and provides antioxidant protection for overall health and wellness.

Ayurvedic medicine offers a holistic approach to managing heart blockage, focusing on restoring balance to the doshas, eliminating toxins, and enhancing cardiovascular health naturally through herbs like Arjuna, Dhamasa, and Pushkarmool.

·  Dhamasa with their thrombolytic property helps to decompose blood clots. Due to its medohara properties it clears all the bad cholesterol from the body. It is the best blood purifier.

·    Pushkarmool is the best medicine for maintaining heart health. It provides quick relief in chest pain. And scraps out all the doshas from the blood vessels. Due to its diuretic property it reduces edema from the body.

·       Arjuna is cardio protective, it strengthens the cardiac muscles. It also maintains blood pressure by dilating and relaxing the blood vessels.

In this article, I discuss a case of a patient with TVD who was recommended Bypass Surgery by an Allopathic doctor. A case of male patient with 69years of age. Patient was having unbearable pain in chest in August 2023.  After visiting the local hospital for an ECG, he was referred to PGI.

Following an echocardiogram there, findings revealed regional wall motion abnormality, mild mitral regurgitation, diastolic dysfunction, and coronary artery disease.

As a result, angiography was recommended. They found LM    calcified with 40-50% plaques, LAD 60-70% diffuse calcification - max 90% Hb cut off, LCX plaques++, OM1 90% stenosis, RCA normal , diagoned with CAD/TVD. After angiography, they recommended Bypass Surgery within 15 days.

Patient was unwilling for surgery but continued his oral allopathic medication.

In December 2023 he came to our OPD in ayurveda24 with complaints of chest heaviness, chest discomfort while bathing, Breathlessness while walking and Ghabrahat with above mentioned reports. After reading all his reports, nadi parikshan and jihva parikshan were done. We recommended our Heart care kadha, Heart care churan and Pushkarmool gugglu for three consecutive months. After one month he is having 60% relief in their symptoms.

And now he is totally fine and healthy without any surgery and free from any type of lifetime medication.

Ayurveda not only aims to strengthen the heart muscle but also supports overall well-being by addressing factors such as inflammation, circulation, and cholesterol levels.
